Intro to Aerial Straps Workshop

In this workshop we will cover the foundations of various straps skills. Starting with an aerial warm up, students will learn conditioning routines that will transform into a straps practice. The workshop will cover the foundation body positions of straps including meathooks and back flags, as well as an introduction to spinning technique, roll ups, flare and front supports.

Prerequisites: We recommend previous aerial experience. 

Taught by Doug Stewart. Doug Stewart graduated from the New England Center for Circus Arts in 2015, and has worked for Cirque Us, Chicago’s Midnight Circus, AIDA Cruises, Live305Entertainment, Westchester Circus Arts, Cirque Dreams, Urania Variete, Flynn Creek Circus and the Kyrstallpalast Variete. In 2023, Doug received 2nd place in Aerial Rope at the Viva Festival and received a speciality prize at the Newcomer Show in Germany for Duo Straps. Doug has been a guest instructor for the professional programs the New England Center for Circus Arts, the Actors Gymnasium and Circadium. Doug served as the Head Coach of Circus Smirkus Camp for 4 years and still directs and consults circus camps with a variety of companies around the United States.
